This novella tells the story of a relationship that began the summer of 1948 in Detroit, Michigan. This was an era just after WWII and the real story unfolds after a soldier has returned from his duty in the Pacific Theater and falls for the local sweet shop girl. Detroit is alive and bustling with activity driven by streetcars, industry, and commerce. It is also a story of those left to carry on at home with circumstances outside of their control. The struggles of their relationship coincide with Detroits struggles with race and religious prejudices. How this young couple perceives the adversities surrounding them shapes how they will begin to cultivate the next generations to make this world a better place. The war may be over, but the war on racism and religious prejudice is still being fought one mind at a time.
